We've Partnered With Contra Costa Animal Services to Provide Free Grooms for Adoptable Dogs

A few weeks ago a kind and ambitious volunteer from Contra Costa Animal Services reached out to us to inquire about us donating some grooms, either mobile where we come to them, or in our downtown Martinez location. I jumped at the chance. Soon after that we were looped in with the Outreach Coordinator Steve, and he looped us in with more staff who were determined to make it happen. On February 28th our groomer Phil drove our grooming van over to 4800 Imhoff Place, Martinez and after getting a little tour he got to work grooming Zeus, Grettle, and Picabo. All three were very sweet and game for the grooming processes and all three had their own quirks.

Picabo was like a model and acted like this wasn't her first time getting groomed, standing statuesque as her husky fur blew in the wind. She was very cool, calm and collected, and that's more than I can say for many huskies, who have reputations for often being terrors in similar situations. Diablo Dog's logo Loki, my best friend for 15 years was tough to groom and also struck terror into the hearts of vet techs all across this country. But Picabo on the other hand, easy peasy. Soon after her groom she was adopted!

Grettle is a bully in breed and that's about it. She was very sweet and calm throughout her groom too. She was clearly a bit anxious and did a funny thing where she stretched out her leg all the way throughout the blowdrying process. Shelter volunteers told us she was cool because she could match any playgroup and style. She was adopted a couple of weeks after our groom!

Zeus, the German shepherd was a good boy for his groom. He stood and accepted it all and most likely enjoyed all of the scrubbing and blowdrying as he had a skin condition. He also saw his playgroup out of the grooming van and barked at them as he wanted to join. He was initially adopted and then found to have several medical issues and taken off the adoptable list unfortunately.
Today we welcomed another husky name Stu. Steve brought him to our location and Phil gave him the deluxe treatment. I was not able to be present but I am told all went well. You can find more info about him at this link and you can meet him in person at 4800 Imhoff Place, Martinez, CA 94553.

We have another mobile visit planned before the end of March where we will meet and groom a few more of these gorgeous pups. We will also do our best to fit in the dogs who need help, and give them a shout when we have a spot open to see if they can bring a shelter dog in need of a groom to us.
